our books
La Suiza near Turrialba in Costa Rica (CR) inspired us to write our first two books. While studying the neotropical fruits at CATIE (CR) we came across again and again the name 'Pittier'. Soon we realized that Henri Pittier (1857–1950) was a more or less forgotten Swiss pioneer in the Neotropics, who decisively influenced the scientific progress of Costa Rica and Venezuela. Instead of writing a book on neotropical fruits we authored in 2000 first a biography of this multitalented scientist. The edition in 2007 of 'Tropenfrucht' was a homage to Henri Pittier on the occasion of his 150th birth anniversary.
